A Great Success for the IP & Business Exchange Forum
Coway and the Walloon Export and Trade Agency (AWEX), together with Wallonia-Brussels International (WBI) successfully held the IP & Business Exchange Forum at Four Seasons Hotel in Beijing on 19th November, 2019. It is a great motion to enhance the cooperation between Belgium and China. In this context, the Zhongguancun Science Park, the First High-tech park in China, gives us the honour to be part as privileged partner of the organization of this Forum, which has been attended by the HRH Princess Astrid of Belgium, Representative of His Majesty the King, in the frame of the Belgian Economic Mission.
After the grand entrance of the princess Astrid and ministers, this forum begins with two welcome speeches by Willy Borsus, Vice-President of the Walloon Government and Minister of Economy and Hou Yun, Deputy Director of the Administrative Committee of Zhongguancun Science Park. Then Dr. TAN, President of Coway, presents an IP lecture about the review of IP protection status and measures in China. After that, Pascale Delcomminette, CEO of WBI and AWEX gives a closing remark for the above official session.
The next session is the panel to discuss good practices and success stories on the Belgian and Chinese sides. Hosted by Valentin de le Court, lawyer and partner of the Daldewolf, Caroline Mouligneau, Vice-Business Director of China-Belgium Technology Center, Antoine Vekemans, CEO of Synthetis, Michel Morant, Chairman of LIEU Network, Andy SUN, Executive Director of Asia Pacific Legal Institute and Daniel Huang, managing Partner & Patent Attorney of Tsingyihua Intellectual Property Law Firm give us some cases and advice of IP protection both in China and Europe, which greatly reduced the prejudice over China IP infringement and inspired great ideas about practical IP protection between the two regions.
Lastly, the B2B exchange session is heat up. Sino-Belgium companies are actively communicating and seeking opportunities for cooperation.
With the support of the governments from Belgium and China, guarantee of sound and strengthened IP protection, active participation of the Sino-Belgium companies, the technical cooperation between China and Belgium would move forward to the bright and promising future.
Finally, it is worth remembering that the idea of tackling this subject is mostly related to the close collaboration formed since 2013 between AWEX (the Walloon Export and Trade Agency) and the Technology Transfer Office COWAY. This partnership was established between AWEX, Coway and Texas A&M who founded together the global open innovation network, OWIN®, later joined by WBI as an associate member. Thus this activity not only bonds the Sino-Belgium connection but long lasting relationship among the Europe, America and Asia.
