New Energy
Coway’s foray into the energy storage and lithium-ion UPS sectors is not a random move, but a strategic extension and inevitable upgrade based on nearly two decades of deep engagement in the new energy industry chain. Since its establishment, leveraging its superior industrial and research resources, Coway has focused on technological innovation and international economic cooperation in the new energy sector, completing forward-looking strategic positioning and market accumulation well in advance.
In 2003, it took the lead in entering the supercapacitor vehicle sector;
In 2004, relying on Tsinghua University’s core technologies for new energy vehicles, it invested and established Beijing Tsinghua Energy Huatong Technology Development Co., Ltd. (Yihuatong), specializing in R&D and industrialization of fuel cell engine systems. The company later listed on the STAR Market, becoming China’s first fuel cell concept stock;
In 2008, again partnering with Tsinghua University’s core technological resources, it invested and established Changzhou Maikehua Electric Vehicle Technology Co., Ltd., focusing on R&D and promotion of micro electric vehicles and deeply engaged in the core field of intelligent drive control systems for micro electric vehicles.
Deep integration of China’s lithium-ion battery industry chain is Coway’s core competitive advantage. China now accounts for over 70% of global lithium-ion battery capacity and about 40% of the lithium-ion UPS market. Domestic lithium batteries lead in energy density, fast charging, cycle life, and cost-effectiveness. Supported by China’s mature industrial base, Coway provides global partners and clients along the Belt and Road with high-performance, reliable, and cost-effective energy storage solutions and lithium-ion UPS systems, filling international market gaps and supporting global energy transition. In 2018, Coway officially entered markets along the Belt and Road. Amid accelerating global energy transition, demand for power security and backup power has surged. From 2018 to 2021, Coway provided full-chain equipment and integrated solutions for clients in key Belt and Road regions. In 2022, Coway established an overseas subsidiary in Moscow, building a complete cross-border service system and solving “last-mile” service challenges.
After years of development, Coway’s energy storage business has achieved rapid growth in major markets along the Belt and Road, with a strong brand reputation and industry influence. At present, its core product lines covering residential energy storage, commercial & industrial energy storage and lithium-ion UPS have formed a complete portfolio of six major series and more than 50 models. It can not only develop customized energy storage system solutions for clients in key Belt and Road regions, but also provide large-scale customized bulk supply services, fully meeting the diversified energy storage application needs of different scenarios and customers.
